Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is an IRS-sponsored program that was established in 1969. VITA is a free tax-preparation program that is offered to low- to moderate-income persons.
VITA Mission Statement
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) seeks to fulfill the needs of the surrounding community. Our mission is threefold:
- For our clients, we aim to prepare accurate returns with the utmost courtesy and professionalism.
- For our interns, we aim to:
- provide leadership, training, and real-world experience; and
- present the importance of an internship and giving back to the community.
- For the college, we aim to present The Black Chamber of Commerce as a landmark for academic excellence and service to the community.

Taxpayer Checklist
- Valid government ID for yourself and/or spouse
- Social Security card or ITIN for you or any dependents being claimed on your tax return
- Child-care expenses, provider information, and tax ID number
- A sample check or a bank statement with the routing and account numbers
- Form 1098-T for tuition paid for post-high school or undergraduate education
- All income statements: W-2, 1099-R (pension), 1099-G (unemployment statement), and all 1099 forms paid in cash or personal checks
- Form 1095-A if you purchased health insurance through the marketplace and were eligible for the premium tax credit
- Current year IP-PIN assigned by the IRS if you were a victim of identity theft
- Your tax return for the previous year
- Any other tax-related information
